Extreme - Even The Brave Quake

Individuals who become satiated with the mundane look for spice and excitement to ignite the fires missing in their lives. People take up sports or other recreational activities to add experience to their lives, fulfilling an apparent hole they perceive in their existence. For some, it is merely the satisfaction in pushing their limits, experiencing intense emotions, and gaining more than they receive from everyday life. The need for an adrenaline rush increases each time, feeding a desire for more and more. Examples are from
-
Carousels to roller coasters to extreme amusement rides,
-
Trail hiking, to mountaineering, to climbing, and free climbing sheer cliff faces,
-
Swimming, to snorkelling, to diving, to deep water diving,
-
Repelling to parachuting to base jumping.

Fetishism and Extremes
All of these are natural if somewhat questionable by the more reserved, increments in the intensity of activities. Fetishism also has its progressions, which evolve with many who participate in the lifestyle. Fantasy never becomes enough, realizing it becomes a driving force to propel individuals deeper into its dark recesses. This progression is sometimes slow, and occasionally drastic, depending on where an individual enters the fetish lifestyle and how driven they are to try more. From play to active fetishism to BDSM to hardcore all have their evolutionary steps:
-
Handcuffs and restraints, to bondage, to Shibaru, to suspension,
-
Slaps and tickles, to crop and paddles, to flogging, to whipping, to extreme pain,
-
Violet wands, to cattle prods, to intense electrical shocking.

Many others lead to progressive extremes, equally intense reactions, and endorphin production, resulting in highs for both the giver and receiver. Subsequent articles will deal with each of these in turn.

The Draw to Extreme
People are drawn to extreme activities for various reasons, including the thrill of adventure, a desire to overcome challenges, and a need to connect with their inner desires and fantasies and those of others. Extreme activities offer a way to experience sensations, emotions, and other experiences that are otherwise hard to access. Here's a more detailed look at the driving forces

Accomplishment
Completing the challenge of overcoming an extreme activity provides a strong feeling of pride.

Adrenaline Rush
The major draw for many participants is the excitement and adrenaline rush associated with the extreme.
Breaking the Routine
Undertaking the extreme and something truly uncommon provides a break from the mundane and the opportunity to experience “more.”

Control (Exerting or Losing)
Many individuals feel that they are either in total control or absent of any control, which fills deep-seated psychological needs. This feeling is particularly apt when coupled with emotional control or release.

Emotion
Many participants use the extreme to regulate or surrender free rein to emotional constraints, allowing them to identify, experience, and express emotions; this is particularly true of extreme event targets.

Flow State
The deeply satisfying and almost spiritual, if not sensual, nature of focusing one’s attention and feeling of being "in the zone" during such activities.

Goal Setting and Completion
Setting a goal is normal for most individuals, and the powerful motivator for many is being able to endure and complete an extreme event, which proves one is stronger than the challenge faced.

Overcoming Withdrawal
Like those with addictions, individuals lacking other forces in their lives keep getting drawn back into or wanting more extreme activities as a mechanism to satisfy their craving to overcome withdrawal symptoms.

Personal Development
Many participants are motivated by the opportunity to test their limits, develop new skills, and overcome fears.
Pushing Limits
Individuals are frequently motivated to test themselves and explore new limits, overcoming fears and items that they feel diminish them in their roles or lives.

Social
The shared experiences and resulting camaraderie of participation in an extreme event provide a strong sense of belonging.

Transcendence
The sensation of being more than just themselves or existing outside the event provides a deep connection during extreme experiences.
Therefore, lacking judgement, a common mantra within the Fetish community is
Your Kink is Not My Kink, but it is Your Choice.
